About English for Daily Life
![]() |
The English for Daily Life text was written to meet the needs of people faced with the task of teaching English as a second language with little or no previous experience or training. The dialog content comes directly from needs expressed by users in the field. The methodology and format are intended to appeal to a variety of styles. It provides for an eclectic approach to teaching ESL-there are dialogs, narratives, stories, language focus, a variety of drills from mechanical to communicative, as well as community interaction activities, and student homework. In addition to the above, an attempt has been made to offei ideas that teachers can employ to help students learn faster using non-text material. These are included in the Teacher Manual. The Student Supplement provides additional activities and information that will help the student learn. The EDL text is written for the intermediate level. However, with the additional suggestions, activities, and materials included, it can be modlfied for use at a beginning or an advanced level. The text contains 32 modules that deal with everyday language, topics, and settings, such as shopping and buying, making appointments, giving directions, and others. While some of the content may not be applicable in an EFL (English as a foreign language) setting, the techniques and procedures can easily be applied to any content that you might want to use with it. The Mini Stories and Mirri Conversations add a dimension that allows for extended exploration of language at the more advanced levels. |
